Secretlab Magnus Pro review: do I still recommend it?

I have been through a lot of desks: flat-pack particleboard, a couple of cheap frames, and an IKEA tabletop on legs that I kept telling myself was fine. None of them lasted, and none of them ever looked clean. The Magnus Pro is the first desk I have owned that feels like a permanent part of the room instead of something I will replace next year.

Two years of fifteen-hour days

This is where I work, code, and game, and on a heavy day that is fifteen hours at it. Two years in, it has not loosened, wobbled, or shown wear. It is all metal and genuinely heavy, and that mass is the whole point: you lean on it and it does not move. Every flimsier desk I owned eventually picked up a wobble. This one has not.

The cleanest my setup has ever been

The cable management is the best I have used. The magnetic channels and trays take every cable, so nothing hangs underneath and nothing crosses the surface. I run the under-desk mount and the magnetic headphone holder, and between them the desk finally stays clear. It is the cleanest my setup has ever been, and it has stayed that way.

The two catches, and the smell

Two real downsides. It is expensive, the buy-once-cry-once kind, and it is heavy enough that you want to know where it is going before you build it. The one surprise was the magnetic deskmat: out of the box it gave off a chemical smell for a few days, enough that I left a window open until it cleared. After that, no complaints.

Would I buy it again

Without hesitation. Two years in, at fifteen hours a day, it is the one piece of my setup I never think about, which is the highest compliment I can pay a desk. Buy once, cry once.
