Our city water came out of the tap with a strong chlorine smell, which is what pushed me to put in a whole-house filter back in 2022.
What it fixed
Four years later it is still doing the job. The chlorine smell, and the taste it dragged along with it, are way down, and that has held even though our household goes through a lot of water. Water pressure never took a hit, which was the thing I worried about most going in.
The upkeep, and the catch
We swap the filters about once a year, which for our usage is fair. The only real downside is the install: doing it yourself is difficult, and it is the one reason this lands at a 9 instead of a 10. If your situation is anything like ours, city water with a chlorine problem, I cannot recommend it enough. Just be ready for the plumbing.
